Italy
closed with a second success in Catania their 2006
World League home campaign. Just one week before
the final week end in Russia, Gian Paolo Montali's
team slained again 3-0 the Chinese team with a
real one way game. Even without Mastrangelo and
Cisolla, out for different reasons, the Azzurri
played a very corageous game building point after
point the best condition for a well deserved
victory.
At the very first beginning three points in a row by Cristian Savani gave Italy the opportunity to put space between the azzurri and the chinese team. Without the first setter (out for an injury) the chinese suffered in receiving. With five points ahead in the score, Italy managed the match with a very effective volleyball in attack. With Mastrangelo out for a well deserved game out, Gian Paolo Montali's team increased the margin closing the set 25-14 in 18 minutes.
In the second set a chinese block on a spike by Fei gave the first break to the guests. A break the azzurri immediately recovered with a ball rebuilt and finalized by Cozzi. So Italy came back in the score but China recovered again going ahead again at the first technical time-out. Italy recovered for the second time giving the match the usual direction. Savani and Alessandro Fei were outstanding in finalizing all the balls served to him by Vermiglio building the setup to close the set 25-22 after 26 minutes.
The third set started with Italy immediately ahead 8-3 at the first technical time out. Savani was still the key player of the attacking italian patterns while China lost any chance in a problematic receiving and in a not efficient building system. So Italy reached easily the second technical time out going ahead 16-9 with Alessandro Fei. In the final part of the set, China tried a comeback but Italy controlled closing a match with no appeal for the chinese.
